Star Ceiling and Ambient Lighting
Fibre-optic star ceilings, RGBW cove lighting and cinema-mode scenes. Try the controls below. Everything on this page responds.
Design your ceiling
Change the star density, tone and effects, then choose a cove colour. This is a visual preview of a ceiling seen from below.
Cove light runs around the edge. Dots along the bottom edge represent step and aisle lighting.
Layers of light
A cinema needs more than stars. Each layer is separately dimmed and combined in scenes.
Cove lighting
Light hidden in a ceiling recess washes the ceiling and walls with a soft glow.
Wall-wash lighting
Grazes light across acoustic panels and wall finishes to show their texture.
Step and aisle lighting
Low-level lights along platforms and aisles make the room safe to move through in the dark.
RGBW ambient lighting
Red, green, blue and white channels mix any colour and a clean warm or cool white.
Dimmable scenes
Each lighting group is dimmed and saved in scenes, such as arrival, intermission and film.
Cinema-mode automation
Pressing play can dim the room, lower the screen and start the star ceiling, then reverse at the end.
Scenes that follow the film
Lighting is tied to the control system. Arrival, intermission and film scenes can be set once and called from a keypad, remote or app. Compatibility with an existing smart home depends on the systems already installed.
- Arrival: warm cove light, stars slowly rising.
- Film: house lights off, stars low, aisle lights on.
- Intermission: cove up, stars gentle.
- End: lights ease back up.
Star ceiling questions
How is a fibre-optic star ceiling built?
Thin optical fibres are passed through the ceiling board and connected to a light engine. Fibres of different thicknesses give depth. Ceiling construction, engine location and access for service are planned early.
Are shooting stars available?
Some light engines support moving effects such as shooting stars. Availability depends on the engine chosen, so we confirm it in the specification.
Does a star ceiling affect the picture?
It can, if it is too bright. Star brightness and cove light are set so they enhance the room without competing with the image. Cinema mode dims them when the film starts.
